Site preparation

Dirt Work and Site Prep for Collin County Builders and Landowners

Most of the ground north of Dallas is black clay. It swells when it rains, shrinks when it dries, and it will move a foundation, a driveway or a septic field that was not built on properly prepared dirt. That is why site prep matters more here than in most of the country, and it is the work Steele Construction does every week.

As a site prep contractor we work in order: clearing, the pad, the septic system, the driveway, then drainage and final grade.

Why Steele

Why Hire an Excavation Company That Runs the Whole Job

One contractor for the clearing, the pad, the septic and the drive means one schedule and one point of contact. There is no gap between the clearing crew leaving and the pad crew showing up, because it is the same excavation company on every step of your job.

One crew, first cut to final grade

The people who walk the site with you are the people who run the job. Dozer, excavator, skid steer and roller work all fall under the same scope and the same contract.

Two jobs we do more than anything else

House pad construction and septic tank installation are our two most requested services. Both depend on the dirt underneath being right, and both are done by the same people who cut the pad.

Insured, free estimates, one day response

Steele Construction LLC is insured. Estimates are free and follow a site visit, not a guess over the phone. We respond within a day and take emergency and same day work when the schedule allows.

Written scope before the first cut

Scope, price and terms go in a signed contract before any equipment moves. Septic tank installations carry a one year warranty. That warranty applies to septic tank installations only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About Excavation Services

What does an excavation contractor near McKinney actually handle?

House pads, septic system installation, land clearing and forestry mulching, driveways, ponds, pool and storm shelter excavation, pool fill-ins, ditches, culverts, grading and drainage, and brush hog mowing. If it involves moving dirt on a property in Collin County or the surrounding counties, it is on our list.

How far from McKinney do you travel?

About 60 miles in any direction, plus Fort Worth. That takes in Sherman and Denison to the north, Denton to the west and Dallas to the south. Call with the address and we will tell you if it is inside the circle.

Can one contractor handle the clearing, the pad and the septic system?

Yes. We run the whole sequence under one contract, so the schedule does not fall apart between trades. Clearing, pad, septic, driveway and drainage can all be one contract.

Do you pour concrete?

No. We do the dirt side: site prep, foundation excavation, grade beam trenching and sidewalk subgrade. The pad is compacted and ready when the concrete crew arrives.

How fast can you come out?

Typical response time is one day. Emergency and same day work is available when the schedule allows, so call rather than email if the job cannot wait.

Are estimates free, and are you insured?

Yes to both. Estimates are free and follow a site visit. Steele Construction LLC is insured.
