Horse arena footing refurbishment in Aubrey, TX for a property owner in horse country. The floor was graded level with a dozer, then sandy select fill was trucked in and laid over the old base. Four days, including the parking area outside.

The Job
This arena had been used hard. The owner before last trained reining horses in it, and years of running horses in circles had packed the footing down until it looked like concrete. A low spot had worn into the middle of the barn like a bowl. Horses need something soft underfoot, and this floor was beating up their ankles and joints.
The work
What We Did
We ran a track dozer through the arena to grade out the high spots and the bowl in the center so the floor was level again. The old footing was not removed; it became the base.
Sandy select fill was trucked in and laid down as fresh material over the old floor. In the photos, the light tan is the old floor and the orange on top is the new. The parking and access area outside the barn was graded and built up at the same time.

The Result
A level arena floor with a soft, fresh footing over a graded base, and a low spot in the center that no longer exists. North Texas has naturally occurring red sandy clays that are soft and easy on horses, which is part of why so many trainers are in this area, and that is what went down. Four days total, including the parking area.
